Royals win five straight, sit at 11-2
No team in Prentiss County has lost less often than New Site.
The Royals are 11-2 with a 35-7 set record, the best winning percentage of the county’s six volleyball programs. New Site carries an MVPI rating of 57.4, which ranks No. 96 statewide and No. 12 in Class 2A.
Both losses were narrow. The first came Aug. 6 at Wheeler in a five-set match that went 3-2. The second came Aug. 22 in tournament play against Baldwyn, 2-1.
Since that Baldwyn loss, New Site has won five in a row.
The run started the same afternoon with a 2-0 win over Thrasher, then continued with a 3-0 sweep at Biggersville on Aug. 25 and a 3-0 win at Falkner on Aug. 27. New Site opened September by handling Hamilton 3-1 at home on Sept. 1, then answered Baldwyn with a 3-0 sweep on Sept. 3 — turning around the only in-county blemish on its record.
Eight of New Site’s 11 wins have been sweeps. The Royals have dropped seven sets all season.
The one number working against them is strength of schedule, which sits at -10.2, the softest in the county. That figure is what keeps an 11-2 team outside the top 90 statewide in a power index that weights opponent quality alongside results.
None of that changes what New Site controls. The Royals have beaten Shannon twice, swept Houlka and Jumpertown, and taken care of the teams in front of them with unusual consistency.
