Rebels chasing a second win after Aug. 11 sweep

Thrasher’s volleyball season has been a grind, and the Rebels have not hidden from it.

Thrasher is 1-13 with a 5-35 set record and an MVPI rating of 15.2, which ranks No. 221 of 245 teams statewide and No. 33 of 36 in Class 1A.

The win came Aug. 11 at home against Jumpertown, and it was emphatic — a 3-0 sweep, the Rebels’ cleanest volleyball of the season. Three sets, no answer from the other side.

Thrasher has also turned up in matches the record does not capture. The Rebels took a set off Shannon on Aug. 18 in a 1-3 loss and did it again against Biggersville on Aug. 27, another 1-3 result. Those are the two nights Thrasher came closest to a second breakthrough.

The schedule has offered little relief. The Rebels have faced Booneville, Wheeler twice, Baldwyn twice, New Site twice, Falkner, Pine Grove and Hickory Flat — a slate that includes the two highest-rated teams in Prentiss County along with several of Class 1A’s stronger programs.

Thrasher has not won since that Aug. 11 sweep, most recently falling 3-0 at Wheeler on Sept. 10.

For a program in this position the measure is not the win column. Thrasher has played 14 matches against a schedule that has rarely given an inch, and the Aug. 11 result is proof the ceiling sits higher than the record suggests.
