Lady Blue Devils at 17-7, ranked No. 5 in Class 3A

Booneville has quietly built the strongest volleyball résumé in Prentiss County.

The Lady Blue Devils are 17-7 through 24 published matches and sit No. 5 in Class 3A in the Mississippi Volleyball Power Index — the highest classification ranking of any team in the county. Their MVPI rating of 70.7 places them No. 60 among 245 ranked teams statewide.

What separates Booneville is not just the record. It is the schedule. The Lady Blue Devils carry a strength of schedule of +2.0, the only positive mark among the county’s six programs. Every other Prentiss County team has played a slate rated below average; Booneville has played one rated above it and still won better than two-thirds of its matches.

The set math backs it up: 47 sets won, 24 lost, a margin of +23.

The signature day came Aug. 22, when Booneville ran through three matches without dropping a set — 2-0 over Baldwyn, 2-0 over Jumpertown and 2-0 over Wheeler. Three county rivals, six sets, no losses.

Booneville also owns sweeps of Corinth, Middleton, Mantachie, Hatley, Shannon and Alcorn Central, plus a 3-2 win over Pine Grove on Aug. 18 that avenged an earlier loss to the same team.

The defeats have come against quality opposition: Pontotoc, Neshoba Central, Ripley twice, Walnut and Kossuth. The Kossuth loss on Sept. 8 was the most lopsided of the season, a 3-0 sweep at home.

Booneville answered it two days later. The Lady Blue Devils went on the road to Alcorn Central on Sept. 10 and won a five-set match 3-2 — the kind of result that carries weight in a power index that rewards road wins over decent teams.

With October approaching, Booneville’s profile is the most complete in the county: a top-five classification ranking, a positive strength of schedule and a set margin that says most nights have not been close.
