“Those kids get after it,” a fan from one of New Site’s summer opponents told me at a recent summer league game.
That’s been a common refrain during games this summer.
The Royals have shown off all facets of their game over the course of the summer: they can get out and run, execute in the halfcourt, play inside or outside. They dive for loose balls and go after every rebound. It’s led to an impressive run during summer league play.
Take, for example, last years state leader in 3 point shooting Walker Moreland. At a recent contest his shot wasn’t falling. Instead of getting down on himself, the senior marksman did what leaders do: dove for several loose balls, sold out on defense leading to several steals and fast breaks, and was the loudest one on the court congratulating his teammates on good plays.
Add these things up and it’s easy to see why the expectations for this team have been growing all summer.
