Burns Shines in Circle as Booneville Takes Game One
Pitcher’s duel. It’s unique to baseball and softball in how it can both excite and infuriate one at the same time.
However, it was nothing but pure bliss for the Booneville Lady Blue Devils as Hallie Burns recorded a one-hit shutout gem in a 1-0 victory over the Raleigh Lady Lions in game one of the 3A State Championship series.
Burns amassed 14 strikeouts in the win, and she never lost control as Booneville took the lead in the top of the first inning.
It was Hannah Davis with an RBI single in the opening frame to give her Lady Devils a lead that they would never really be in risk of relinquishing thanks to Burns’s stellar outing.
Burns carried a perfect game into the fifth inning, but it was lost on a leadoff walk. However, two strikeouts followed to end the only true scoring threat Raleigh had all game.
With the win, the Lady Devils stand just one win away from bringing a championship back to Booneville. Game two of the series will take place on Thursday at Mississippi State University. First pitch will take place 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two between Mantachie and Lake.
