Booneville boys turn up defensive intensity to defeat Wheeler

Booneville and Wheeler found themselves trading shots for most of the game, with Wheeler holding a 20-19 advantage after one quarter.

It was the last lead the Eagles would hold.

Booneville turned up their defensive intensity after Wheeler’s Jalon Beene went off for 10 first quarter points and the Blue Devils got scoring contributuions from 10 players en route to a 68-61 and a spot in the Prentiss County finals against arch rival Baldwyn.

Booneville had four players in double figures: Trey Mckinney had 16. Cople McGrath had 11, Billy Johnson had 10 and Davian Price had 10.

Wheeler was led by Beene’s 21 and Cade Franks 20. Jacob James added 12.

The win moved Booneville to 10-7 on the season while the loss dropped Wheeler to 14-7.

Booneville plays Baldwyn Saturday night for the title.
