New Site gets buzzer beater to take down Wheeler and win Prentiss County Shootout
New Site’s Junior guard Bryton Smith hadn’t hit a two point shot all night. He was 1-12 overall shooting against Wheeler in the final of the Prentiss County shootout.
He saved his best for last.
The athletic playmaker nailed a deep jump shot over the outstretched arm of Wheeler’s Jalon Beene to seal the victory as time expired, 55-53.
Mayhem ensued at half court as his team mates dog piled him. Smith finished with 7 points.
A defensive slugfest for most of the game, the Royals relied on big three pointers from junior sharpshooter Carson Fitzsimmons who hit four three pointers in his way to a team high 22 points. Sophomore Ethan Eaton contributed 11 to be the only other New Site player in double digits.
For Wheeler, Beene finished with 26 points while collecting 12 rebounds. Jacob James added 10 points for the Eagles.
