Baldwyn girls build big first half lead, hold on vs. Booneville to reach title game

Baldwyn girls raced to a large first half lead behind several hot hands from three point range and held off a furious 4th quarter comeback from Booneville to advance to the Prentiss County title game on Saturday with a 65-59 victory.

The Lady Bearcats jumped out to a commanding 14-3 first quarter lead thanks to 5 points from Keely Wade and built that to a 40-15 halftime lead behind 16 second quarter points from I’Yana Ragin.

The Lady Devils made a strong comeback in the second half, tying the game in the fourth quarter behind a flurry of baskets from Kinsley Murphy, Mary Houston Ivy and Lexie Pharr.

The comeback bid fell short for Booneville and Baldwyn was able to seal the game on a pair of Amarie Anderson buckets late.

Baldwyn was led my Ragin’s 27. Anderson chipped in 17.

Booneville was led by Kinsley Murphy with 20. Kristen Ragin had 16.

Baldwyn will play New Site for the Prentiss County title.
